ABSTRACT | DANGER not DENGAR!

Something different from the previous posts.



Just a simple sign, sprayed on a makeshift wall.

Thou, the above image can be done entirely with Photoshop and such, but it just ain't the same as capturing the actual one.

Still remember a real story, told by my dad, during their early college days, the time when English was not widely spoken.

Whilst walking back home from school, they saw a sign, very similar as above, but it was put at an electrical sub-station, stating "DANGER".

So, one of them said, "Hei, look at that sign, DENGAR, perhaps they want us to listen to it", hence they approached the station and listen to it!

Luckily nobody get hurts.

For the past so n so years, the national day celebrations were held at the same venue i.e. Taman SOAS, as such, the modus operandi were almost the same year thru year.

Hence the challenge in photographing such event, is how to capture it differently, finding new perspective, a different view from the others, and most importantly, to make it different from the one that we ourselves took during the previous years.

Some of the photos, have already been taken by the others, or yourself previously, so need to find something new.

WEDDING | A&O | Basuh Kaki ...

... in Brunei local wedding ... it involve loads of local traditional way of ritual.. depending on the origin of the family of the bride & groom ....

.. certain tradition/ritual .. only applies to certain group or ethnic .....

... one of the unique tradition done by the Tutongerz .. i.e. Orang Tutong ... is the Adat Membasuh Kaki ... whereby .. who ever pour the couple's feet with the water they usually will leave some sort of token ... like money ... soil(symbolizing they are giving a piece of land).. jewelries and such ...

.... as I was not the official photographer .. so I was giving way for the Off. Photogs. as not to interfere with their line of sight ... :)

REPORTAGE | Visitors Centre ...

.. large cities usually have a tourist information centre or some sort ... to guide tourist .... including local tourist .. to get to know about any events, happening, info about that particular city ...


.. a man passing by the Singapore Visitors Centre .... a place one should visit to get more insight of Singapore ... friendly staff to lend you a hand ... and got foot massage as well!

PEOPLE | Amusement ...

... in any festive season ... one of the most happening ... or joyous group of people... are the children ...

... photographing them is a challenge ... such that .. they move faster then the lens can focus!! .. eer... unless you are using those super fast expensive lens... then ... that is another story ...


... 3 sweet funny kids .... who love to pose for the camera .... ;)

RANDOM | Shop Closed ...

.. it was a "long" festive weekend... hence loads of shops were closed during the weekend.. even some of the "big" shop were closed as well... I guess... less people will throng the shops during these days... as many people will be busy visiting one another.. instead of shopping at the mall ...


.. double locks ... double grilles..... perhaps.. they will resume business as normal tomorrow ....

.... enjoy the holiday while u can ... :)

BRUNEI | The Simpsons' Feel ....

... whilst having a time out... the topic of having a cultural centre was one of the subject ....

... in our neighbouring countries ... one can go to nice restaurant.. serving local dishes ... and at the same time enjoying the cultural performances ....

... so why can't we have it in Brunei .... ? we can set-up one facing the Brunei River ....

.... at the moment .. we don't have any real fine dining restaurant .. serving real local dishes .... and to top them up ... with a nice cultural performances .....

.. so if anyone of you out there .. have the dosh .... have enough money to set one up ... why not make one...? not only beneficial for the tourist ... but also for the local people ... who love to eat .... and eat ..... and more makan .....

TRAVEL | Daun Di Kolam ...

.... just a quick post ... this photo was not taken at a national park... nor anywhere near it .... this was actually taken at the rooftop of one of the huge shopping malls in Singapore ....

... usually.. when we see stuffs lying around on the street .. or even in the pond or the like.. we will consider it as rubbish .. or litters... but there are actually 2 type of rubbish ..."good rubbish" .. and "rubbish rubbish" .... good rubbish are those which could decompose easily and contribute back to nature ... just like .... falling leaf .... where as rubbish rubbish are something like .. plastic bags ... PVC and the like .... which does not decompose that easily ....

.. but nevertheless... rubbish to one... could mean money to others ......

ABSTRACT | Those Behind The Water ...

..... There is a simple water flowing along a thick glass, and there are some multi coloured objects behind it, thinking it would make a good abstract, hence I captured this....

... Saturday nite .... a nite usually fills with entertainment ... be it indoor .. or outdoor ...

... and for those who opt to stay in .... there aren't many interesting stuff to be watched on telly .. or even cable .... I guess.. they don't want the people to stay in ... hmmm....


... a performance during the Singapore's NDP countdown concert...

SINGAPORE | Arab Street ...

.... what comes to mind when the word "Singapore" is mentioned? ..... for most people .... it will going to be ..... Orchard Road .... Shopping .... i.e. ... shopping@Orchard .... or shopping thereabout ....

... well... i would suggest this time around.... for those enthusiast photographer ... I'd suggest ... dished out Orchard Road ... get away from it ... go somewhere else.... "get-lost" ..... go out ... ride the MRT ... follow the "circle route" ... and hop out to any destination which might interest you ....


.... Arab Street in Singapore ... famous for its textiles and fabrics etc ....

... ~ .. jalan-jalan ke negeri arab ... pakai baju berderab-derab ...~

..." ... waaal fadang fasir wul .... tumpuk-tumpuk ............. "

GF TIPS FOR TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
1. .. some people have asked ... which equipment/gear/lens to bring ... well.. just follow your heart .... bring all the equipments that you can afford to bring/carry ... kit lens .... tele-zoom .... prime lens .... ultra-wide zoom lens ..... and bring along your tripod if you will .... because you never know you might need a particular lens... and you might blame yourself for not tugging it along with you ...

2. Do I have to bring all the equipments everywhere I go at the destination?
... no u just leave it in your hotel room! .. Dooh! ... why u wanna leave it in your hotel room? .. Might as well not to bring all the gears at the first place! ... well.. the actual answer is ... yes of course.. u need to bring all or some of the gears .. make sure u have a proper camera bag ... be it a shoulder bag, slingbag .. or a bag pack( thou the most comfortable but backpack is quite troublesome to get the gears in and out of the bag)

3. So if I am to carry the camera bag, how can I carry all my shopping bags?
.... hmmmm... on top of your head or you can bring an assistant with u!... oh well.. if you are asking me such question, you are like asking, can I eat while I drive? .. or can I play Tuba and dance at the same time? .... well u can ... but it is going to be ultimately difficult ...
.... if u wanna go shopping, don't bring your camera equipments then ... shopping and photography doesn't work well with each other ... unless you are shopping for camera equipments .. or photographing people shopping.. then .. that is a different story ...

4.How about Batteries & Memory Cards?
... bring as much batteries as u could.. so much that they can power a third world country ...eeermm... not! ... just bring what u can, but for batteries, remember to bring your charger, and check if the socket is compatible with the place of destination.... where as for Memory Cards, if you are shooting RAW, then 1GB for sure is not enough, unless you wanna take ONLY ONE photo for each day... if you don't have loads of Memory Cards, bring your laptop, or external hard disk, or get those online storage thingy ... otherwise... use the smallest jpeg setting on your camera... for sure 1GB can get you about 1000 photos ....

5.Wear a comfortable footwear .... I'd recommend ... get a CROCS! ... tried & tested ... might looked ugly to some ... but hey ... it is extremely comfortable ... and of course... because the "cheerful" colour and funky designs of the CROCS ... you must be confident enough to wear it in public .... must not be shy shy one meh ... hmmm.. and if you think you are those shy type... well.. forget about bringing those bulky SLR with you then......as you might be just to shy to use the D/SLR in public too ...

SINGAPORE | NDP 2007 | The Countdown ...

.. since we can't watch Singapore's TV channel in Brunei ... hence we don't really know what kind of celebrations they usually are having for their national day ... thou we can read them from The Straits Times (Singapore Edition), which is available in Brunei .......

... but usually ... we know how the Malaysians celebrate their national day .. because we can watch their local TV channel in Brunei .... especially ... those mega concerts with their popular artists.... awaiting for the clock to strike 12 or 0000 Hours on 31 August....

... well.... in Singapore they also do such celebration ... a free concert was held within the vicinity of the Esplanade ..... the Marina Bay area .... performance by Singapore local artists ...


... countdown celebration ... at exactly 12:00am 09.08.07 .... (wow ... nice number.... just realised that ...) ...... the people celebrating the National Day of Singapore ...
