Pasar malam or Nite Market .. is a common sight in Brunei and even within the neighbouring countries e.g. Malaysia etc ...
Few of the favourite sites in Brunei are, Gadong and Bandar ... and now beginning this year there is a 24 hours weekend bazaar at the heart of the capital which starts from 1800hours Saturday and ends 1800 hours Sunday ....
.. hundred of night stalls can be seen especially during the festive season like HM's Birthday celebration (mid-July to early August) every year, and certain festive seasons.....
... local delicatessen ... dried food ... clothes ... souvenirs ... can be bought from the nite market .... and some food are must-have or must-buy when visiting these market... especially duringthe festive season .. which is the Sutung-Tutuk (pounded-smoked-cuttlefish) and of course the fruits... longan .... hehe ngam kah tu ...

Hi, I found your blog when searching 'Pasar Malam in Brunei'. I am going to Brunei next week and plan to visit the night market. I would like to know more about the market (opening time, how to get there etc...). It will be great if you can tell me more about the market! Your photos look awesome! Iris
Hi Iris,
There are few areas in BSB that you can find the nite market.
1. Jln Sultan, in the capital, it is back to live every Saturday nite til Sunday.
2. And walk a bit for 5 mins, u can have those alfresco dining - gerai style over looking the water village at the Kianggeh Food Centre.
3. Another famous nightly pasar malam is the one at Pasar Gadong, do try their Penyaram, Cucur Pisang, Ayam Madu, Lamp Chp .. eeerr just writing these up made me wanna go there ...
Most of them are within walking distance, and the concierge at your hotel can show u the way.
But the BIGGEST pasar malam will be in mid-July during HM The Sultan's birthday.
Feel free to drop me any more questions. :)
Hi,
May be I should tell you in more detail about my trip. Actually, I will only stop in Brunei to transit for one night (from 5pm to 9am) then I will catch the flight to Hong Kong in the next morning. I know I will stay in a hotel called Orchid Garden which located on Jalan Berakas. Do you think I can get to any of them easily by taxi? And how much do I need to buy food in the night market? Say how much is a bag of fruit? Thanks
The hotel u r staying in is located within the national sports complex, which is only less than 10 mins drive from the airport.
Well, the easiest "Pasar Malam" that you can go to is the Gerai Malam at Pasar Gadong, just tell the Taxi driver that, and they can bring you there.
On normal traffic it should be less than 15 mins from your hotel.
May be you can arrange earlier with your hotel or taxi to bring you back to your hotel, or a quick sight seeing of the capital + the must see Kampong Ayer + Royal palace.
Anyway, since there are also a number of hotels across the Gerai Malam, so you can get taxi from there. :)
As for prices, it is a bit more cheaper than in Singapore, and Singapore currency can be used in Brunei.
U can have a full stomach for just USD10 at the Gerai Malam (food+drink+fruits.
And when u arrived at the airport, grab the free issue of B.I.G Magazine, for more details guide of Brunei. ;)
Thanks for your suggestions. Really really appreciate.
... sure no problem .. my pleasure...
just let us know how it goes ... :)
.. hope everything goes well ....
