WORLD | Happy Chinese New Year
Chinese communities all over are celebrating Chinese New Year.
In Brunei, as usual, the main attraction early in the morning is at the Chinese Temple at the capital.
Red is considered to be a part of the tradition, and Gold as the icing of the cake.
Playing around with the Chinese character, writing it upside down, rearranging their orientation, characters, and such are an art that are mastered by few.
Even the grilles are painted red, not surprising, some part of the world the town are painted red.

GREETING | Maulidir Rasul 1429 Hijrah
Today, most major Islamic regions are celebrating the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him). Celebrated every 12 Rabiulawal of the Islamic (Hijrah) Calendar.
As usual, in Brunei, the national celebration were held at the Taman Omar Ali Saifuddien, BSB.

BRUNEI | NATIONAL DAY 2008
Today marks the 24th National Day of Brunei Darussalam
I don't know why, but I don't feel like taking load of photos today, walkaround for a few blocks, met some people, took just one or two shots, then off to the Taman.
Saw load of photogs, local, imported, men N women all alike, young and seniors, whilst some photog. have "change" their profession to videographer and such.
Anyway, I was hoping to capture some people on the street, unfortunately, this year's celebration, there were not many people on the street! Was it because most of the "public" were involved in the actual field performances?
So, yeap, I was just at the grandstand, putting down my camera, and enjoying the field performances, a big round of applause should be given to those performers.
This year, the celebration was held at the reknown Taman Omar Ali Saifuddien, or Taman SOAS, and for the 25th National Day celebration, next year, as it will be grandeur, most probably it will going to be held at the National Stadium, yet to be confirmed.
So till that time comes, enjoy your present celebration.

WORLD | Gong Xi Fa Cai
Most Chinese community the world over are celebrating their "Big" day today.
Chinese New Year is the time for giving & happiness.
What the Belly Dance is to the Egyptian and thereabout, the Chinese New Year is not complete without the Lion Dance.
It is customary to give "Ang Paw" (red packet containing few sum of money), to the Lion, and usually the Lion will be feed with cabbage, these traditions are meant for good luck, longevity and prosperity.
Just like the Prosperity Burger, which are out annually, so does the "Ang Paw", but what happen to the Knights of Prosperity? It was a hilarious series what.

WORLD | SALAM MA'AL HIJRAH 1429
Salam Ma'al Hijrah 1429 to the Muslim readers.
This photo was taken few years back with the Film Canon EOS 300X SLR + 28-90mm lens.
One of the prominent landmarks of Bandar Seri Begawan.
On a totally different note, I read this article regarding the danger of improper disposal of the super energy saving light bulb, found ubiquitously in most home.
A broken energy saving light bulb, contain a little amount of mercury, hence when the bulb broke, the mercury will diffuse and release a hazardous mercury fume, thou a single broken bulb in a well ventilated room is not THAT hazardous, but if 5 bulbs broke, in a small contained room, well my advice would be, get out of the room ASAP!
Whilst watching the Mythbuster on telly, one of the crew accidentally hit the light bulb with a solid object, and he mentioned that he wanted to go out of the room in danger of the mercury fume! Hence that strengthened the above para regarding the mercury thingy.
Mercury, Hg, with the atomic number of 80, is the one of the very few metal which is liquid in room temperature.
I think, the manufacturer should clearly label on the packaging of how to dispose the light bulb properly.

TRAVEL | SINGAPORE | Bugis Street
Whilst traveling, it is good to go to those "happening" place, where many people will be there one meh, just like this place, everytime going here, for sure so many many people wah.
So many photo opportunities, as there are so many cute kiosks selling itsy-bitsy-nitty-gritty items, hence so many stuffs to buy ( for those who loves shopping that is).
Oh, BTW, Merry Christmas to those celebrating it today.
In some parts of the continent, if you listen carefully to the radio stations, some or most of them are not manned! Some of the programmed were already pre-recorded, thus people need not got to work, and can celebrate the festive season with their love ones.

GREETINGS | E-CARD ver 8.5
.... hari raya is getting closer ... loads of people are now making some last minute preparations... worrying whether their new clothes will be ready or not in time for the big day .... despite sending it to the dressmaker long before the fasting month ...
.. worrying whether the curtain .. will be ready or not .... then wondering if the new sofa set will be available for delivery .... and wondering if the kuih raya .. biskut raya .... kek roll raya... or even jalanraya be ready for hari raya ....
.. ishk... don't think too much lah ... according to the Astrologist ..(hmmm.... Astroist is people who love to watch ASTRO ... and ASTROISM is those who study ASTRO ...?) during the Majlis Ilmu ... by simulating their super expensive astrological software .. the new month for Syawal will not be sighted .. because during that said time... the moon will still be below the horizon ..... unless u climb thousand of metres above sea level ..... sapa tah kan naik ... Angkasa1 yang Malaysia atu ganya tu kan naik ke angkasa .... atu jangan dikatakan bulan .... bumi pun nampak tu ... hmmm... so anyone of u kan mau jadi the 2nd one kah ..? .. dapat jua jadi Angkasa2 .. Angkasa3 ... ... macam Chef Wan bah .... ada jua Chef Tu ... Chef Three .. Carrefour .... Channel Five .. eeerrk .. what am I talking about ..... anyway .....
.. trying to get away from the typical greeting card photo ... of mosque .... ketupat..... n such ..... btw .. feel free to use this for your raya greetings as it is ....
.. few years back ... there will be announcement on the radio .. stating when will be the last time to send your greeting cards locally and internationally .. usually 2 weeks before raya for local ... and 3-4 weeks for international ...
... but nowadays ... there is no longer such announcement ... either .... less people are sending the greeting or the postal service is getting better ....
... soon .. mobile phones will be flooded by SMS.. MMS greetings ... E-Mails will be "cluttered" with e-greetings ... thou some still prefer the traditional greeting cards .. but whatever method it will be... it is the thought that counts ....

... in our "normal" calendar ... the date changes everytime the clock is at 0000 Hours ... where as .. in the Islamic calendar ... the date changes during Maghrib .. which is... more or less.. during sunset ...
... so this evening will mark the 1st night of the Terawih prayers in Brunei .. and for other muslims in many part of the world ....

... if u think about it ... the some of the beauty of Fasting are... it can help u to diet .... it can make you feel how some unfortunate people are living without inadequate diet ...
... if u actually follow the routine.... Sahur (sohur) ... Sungkai (Iftar) ... Terawih prayers ... eating moderately .... starting off with dates ... ( encourage to eat in odd numbers ... preferably 7 dates .. ) ... insya Allah ... you'll have a healthy lifestyle ....
... Ramadhan .. is the time of reflection of oneself .... being close with the creator ... time for forgiveness.... time for giving .... giving a lil bit of your earning... to be given to the orphanage ... to the needies.... spread the wealth ....

BRUNEI | Happy Anniversary RBAF ...
... 31st May 2007 .. marks the 46th anniversary of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces .... or in malay ... Angkatan Bersenjata DiRaja Brunei, ABDB ....
.. this year the main event was held at the National Stadium ...
... btw ... FYI .. there is also a exhibition being held at the International Convention Centre, ICC .. during this celebration ... which is ( strangely.... amusingly ...) called "BRIDEX" ... ( 'coz .. I .. and perhaps .. most people will think that .. it is some sort of BRIDAL EXHIBITION ... ) .. but ... waheeey ... it, BRIDEX, actually stands for Brunei Darussalam International Defense Exhibition .... which is the first ever such kind of exhibition ever held in the country ...
... hmmm .. to avoid confusion ... why not called it .. BRUFENSE .. or BRUDEF ... or the likes... hmmmm..... oh well...
