On the 6th August 1945, the first atomic bomb in history exploded directly over this area.
The park, covering about 122,100 sq. meters, was designed by Kenzo Tange, a professor at the Tokyo University and 3 others whose proposal was selected thru a design competition....
At the very end of the photo, u can see the well-known structure, remnants of the WWII era, that building is call as the A-Bomb Dome, which was original built in 1915.
Where as the arch shape structure at the foreground is the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims.
As a historical witness that conveys the disaster of the first atomic bombing in history, and as a symbol of the vow to pursue the abolition of nuclear weapons and enduring peace, in December 1996 the A-bomb Dome was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List based on the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
